Yoga Mats
What to look for in a Yoga Mat?
The two most important factors are grip and thickness. You do not want your hands to slip when getting sweaty, or feel the hard floor on your knees. Zenicio solves this problem by using high-quality TPE foam. This material not only durable, but increases in grip when your hands get sweatier.
FAQs
A few commonly asked questions.
How do I choose a yoga mat?
You can choose the yoga mat that suits you best. A thicker mat is often softer and more comfortable but may be slightly less stable. With a thinner yoga mat, you feel the hard surface less, which is beneficial for balance exercises. The choice is yours.
What are common sizes?
The standard width of a yoga mat is 60x183 cm, but you can also opt for an extra-wide yoga mat. Generally, it's advisable to choose a length slightly greater than your body size.
The standard thickness of a yoga mat is around 6 mm: thick enough to provide a soft but firm buffer between you and the floor, yet thin enough to roll tightly and easily carry. Another advantage of a 6mm yoga mat is its stability, lying flat on the floor and forming a solid base that doesn't shift, even during jumps! TPE yoga mats are also thicker than average but remain very lightweight. These softer mats are particularly suitable for Yin and Hatha yoga or Pilates.
What material is used for yoga mats?
Yoga mats are generally available in three standard materials: TPE, PU, and PVC. TPE is the most environmentally friendly material, consisting of natural rubbers. This material is also known for its low density, providing good cushioning and lightweight. PVC and PU are heavier rubbers but are easier to clean and stay flat more easily. Zenicio primarily uses sustainable TPE material. See: [link] Zenicio-Pro®.
What determines grip in a yoga mat?
A yoga mat provides grip on both sides: on the bottom to prevent sliding on the floor and on the top to prevent slipping during yoga poses. Yoga mats achieve grip through a combination of material and texture. Mats made of natural rubber (TPE) typically offer the best grip, even during perspiration. Additionally, many mats have a ribbed texture on the top layer, providing extra traction. The latest generation of rubber yoga mats features 'dry-grip technology,' ensuring that no moisture remains on the mat, ensuring you always have the best grip, even during intense perspiration!
